Psyc 11 Research Tutorial (Oler)

Tips and tricks for doing the research for Dr. Oler's Research projects.

Getting Started

To begin searching for empirical studies for your Psych1a or 1b research paper you will want to use EBSCOhost or Gavilan OneSearch.

  • EBSCOhost is a database of periodical articles. These include magazines, newspapers and journals. Empirical studies will be published in scholarly journals.
  • Gavilan OneSearch is a single search option to search all of the library content at once.

You will need a Gavilan Library card to search either way from off campus. Your 'password' will be some part of your library card number or the whole card number. The instructions are on the login page.

Tips & Tricks

  • After you have completed one of the tutorials here, if you still have questions, please contact us in the library. We are happy to help with your research.

  • If you need help in getting access to the full text of an article, here is information about Interlibrary Loan (a service whereby the library might be able to get a copy of an article that is not full text in our databases.)

Best advice passed on from previous students in Dr. Oler's classes... "Start Now. Don't Procrastinate."
