Find a Print Journal Article Class Assignment:
Find an article about your chosen topic in a print/hard copy journal within last 10 years. This guide is designed to utilize the online databases to provide search access to the journals that Gavilan Library has in house. Below you will find a list of print journals and dates that the Gavilan library owns. You can also try your local public library and the library at your practicum site to find additional print journals.

1) Start on the Library Homepage (http://www.gavilan.edu/library
2) Select the Full List of Library Databases from the Find Resources dropdown menu
3) From the Full List of Library Databases, select the Health Source: Nursing/Academic link
4) Login, if prompted. You can access the Library databases with your library card number ORyour GavID number (remember to include all the numbers and letters in each)
5) Now we search for one of the titles that the library has in the collection. From the Database homepage, select the Publications link at the top of the page.
6) Search for one of the titles on the first page of this guide and click the Browse button.
7) Click on the title from the search results.
8) From the Title Detail screen you will click on the Search Within This Publication link.
9) Now let's add the topic term into our search and click Search.
Be sure to add the word "AND" between the journal name (e.g., "Nursing") and your search terms. Place it in all caps.
10) Review the results. If you need to, you can sort your results by newest on top. Remember you can use the magnifying glass icon to review the article abstract to figure out if the article will be helpful.
NOTE: Once you have chosen an article, you will use the Journal title you are searching along with the issue date to locate the journal in the library. With the journal in hand you can find the article on the pages listed in the search results.
