Annotated Bibliography and Persuasive Essay Assignments

 Paper #3—Persuasive Essay

This is a two-part assignment which includes an annotated works cited as well as a formal, persuasive essay.

 Part I—Annotated Works Cited

In “The Conservative Case for Gay Marriage,” Ted Olsen describes how science has proven that sexuality is an inherent characteristic, like being left-handed, rather than a lifestyle choice.  Find three articles on this topic, read them carefully, and write one paragraph summaries of each article.  Create a Works Cited sheet in MLA format and follow each entry with your one-paragraph summary.

 Technicals:

Three entries—approximately two pages—typed, double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12 pt font, 1-inch margins, and page numbers.

 Due 10/30/14

Late Papers will be penalized.

 Part IIPersuasive Essay

Considering Ted Olsen’s essay, write your own persuasive essay regarding gay marriage.  Take a clear stance, either for or against, and provide examples and evidence to support your argument.  You must incorporate Olsen’s essay into your own essay.

Technicals:

3—4 pages. Typed, double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12 pt font, 1-inch margins, page numbers, and all quotations followed by in-text citation of the page number where you found the quotation.  Example:  Virginia Woolf referred to the audience as “the face beneath the page” (14).

 Due 11/4/14

Late Papers will be penalized.
